§ Mr. Onslowasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what estimate he has made of the likely effect of a further increase in overseas students' fees on the number of such students coming to the United Kingdom; and what representations he has received about the probability that such an increase will cause more overseas students to seek education in the Soviet bloc.
§ Mr. Gerry FowlerThe effect of increased fees on demand cannot be reliably quantified; the increase which will take effect in the next academic year simply takes account of increased costs. I have received no representations primarily arguing that it will cause more students to go to the Sovietbloc.
