HL Deb 25 March 1976 vol 369 cc848-9WA
Lord TREFGARNE

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What proportion of residential properties owned by them, particularly married quarters owned by the Ministry of Defence, have insulated loft spaces; and to what standards the insulation is laid.

Baroness BIRK

Of approximately 100,000 married quarters in the United Kingdom owned by the Ministry of Defence, the standards of loft insulation are as follows:

100mm 5 per cent. (5,000 houses)
50mm 50 per cent. (50,000 houses)
25mm 40 per cent. (40,000 houses)

NOTES.

It is regretted that the equivalent information cannot be provided for the balance of some 5,000 houses without disproportionate effort. Most houses in this group are due for disposal within the foreseeable future and their insulation levels have not been surveyed.

All new built MOD married quarters are now being provided with loft insulation to a standard of 100mm. Other MOD houses for which there is a continuing requirement are also being re-insulated to the same standard, as and when funds can be made available.

Information about residential properties owned by Her Majesty's Government other than married quarters is not available and could not be obtained without disproportionate effort. Such properties constitute an insignificant proportion of the total number involved.
