Mr. Ifor Davies

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many accidents occurred in the mining industry in each of the past 10 years in Wales and the rest of the United Kingdom; how many resulted in loss of work; how many proved fatal; and if he will make a statement on safety measures.

The Chairman of the Health and Safety Commission informs me that separate figures for the whole of Wales are not readily available and he has provided information in the following form.

in the mining industry are the subject of continuing joint consultation between the Health and Safety Executive, the mining industry, mining trade unions and professional institutions.
