HC Deb 22 March 1976 vol 908 cc80-1W
Mr. Hooson

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he is satisfied that there has been adequate mineral exploration of the natural resources of Wales; and what steps he intends to take to improve the position.

Mr. Alec Jones

Whilst some metaliferous and non-metaliferous investigations have been made or are programmed we are considering what further measures can be initiated with the assistance of the Institute of Geological Sciences to obtain more information about certain resources. The Institute, as part of its mapping programme for Wales, will be carrying out a geological survey of the Cardiff-Bridgend area.

In the general context the Government have yet to make decisions on the reports of the Committee on Planning Control over Mineral Working published on 23rd February 1976 and the Advisory Committee on Aggregates which is expected to be published shortly.
