HL Deb 22 March 1976 vol 369 cc531-2WA
Lord AVEBURY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What proportion of local authority dwellings in England and Wales for which loan sanction was granted in 1975 have no flues or chimneys, excluding multi-storey flats.

Baroness BIRK

Precise information is not available in the Department. Information is, however, collected on the types of heating installation provided. The latest annual figures available are for 1974 for local authority and new town dwellings (excluding the Greater London Council) in England and Wales. They are

Types of heating Percentage of houses approved (i.e. excluding flats)
Solid fuel 5.9
Smokeless solid fuel 1.4
Gas 72.6
Electricity 18.5
Oil 1.6
100.0
All dwellings apart from those heated solely by electricity would need some form of flue.
