Mr. Hicks

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment which sections of the Control of Pollution Act 1974 have been implemented; and if he will make a statement regarding his future intentions.

Mr. Beith

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he has taken Steps to bring into force in their entirety Parts I, II and IV of the Control of Pollution Act 1974.

Mr. Denis Howell

The following provisions are in force in England and Wales; Sections 17, 19, 20, 21, 25, 26, 27(1)(a) 27(2), 29, 30, 43, 44, 49, 50, 563–87, 89–107, 108(3), 109; Schedules 1 and 2 and certain amendments and repeals under Schedules 3 and 4.

Regulations under Part IV are in preparation and appointed day orders will be laid shortly in respect of Sections 43 and 44.

It is hoped to bring the following provisions into force in the near future: Sections 3–11 and associated provisions relating to the licensing of waste disposal sites; Sections 22 and 23 relating to street cleaning.
