§ Dr. GilbertThe Department's research on rust has been directed towards its reduction and prevention, rather than towards its detection or the measurement of its incidence. The Transport and Road Research Laboratory has examined possible methods of improving the corrosion resistance of vehicles; and the effects of salt used in winter maintenance.
