§ Mr. Matesasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department under what statutory provisions foreign nationals married to British wives can obtain the same rights of citizenship as female foreign nationals married to British husbands.
§ Mr. Alexander W. LyonUnlike a foreign woman married to a citizen of the United Kingdom and Colonies, a foreign man has no entitlement to be registered as a citizen by virtue of the marriage. He may be granted naturalisation if he 615W satisfies the requirements set out in Section 10 of, and the Second Schedule to, the British Nationality Act 1948. The question of giving wives and husbands equal rights in this respect is being considered in the course of the current review of nationality law.
