HC Deb 11 March 1976 vol 907 c287W
Mr. Roy Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representations he has received from the Association of District Councils concerning the introduction of new legislation on hackney carriages and private hire cars; what reply he has sent; and if he will make a statement.

Dr. Summerskill

In response to inquiries from the Association we have said that we hope that a consultative document on taxi and private hire car legislation will not be too long delayed.

Mr. Roy Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will introduce new legislation concerning hackney carriages and private hire cars; when he anticipates that such legislation will become law; and whether Greater London will be included.

Dr. Summerskill

We hope shortly to issue a consultative document on the control of taxis and private cars. At this stage I am unable to say when legislation is likely to be introduced or what its scope might be.
