HC Deb 11 March 1976 vol 907 c282W
28. Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what progress is being made with the rebuilding of Holloway Prison; what is the completion date; and what will be the estimated cost.

Dr. Summerskill

We expect the first four living blocks for prisoners and certain ancillary accommodation to be taken into use before the end of 1976. Demolition of the remaining part of the old prison will follow, providing the site for the rest of the new prison. This will include further living accommodation, the hospital and operating theatre, workshops, visiting facilities, gate and administration offices. The current estimate of the cost of the whole project, including provision of staff housing, is £10 million, and it is expected to be completed in 1983.
