HC Deb 09 March 1976 vol 907 c135W
21. Mr. Rost

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on the proposed closure of the Chilwell Ordnance Depot.

Mr. Robert C. Brown

Closure of the Central Ordnance Depot, Chilwell, is one of the main proposals arising from the Army's review of its static logistic support facilities in the United Kingdom. Overall we must plan for a reduction of some 3,000 civilian staff in the fields of storeholding, repair and other logistic functions by about 1980. The proposals are currently under discussion with staff interests through the normal Whitley machinery prior to final decisions being taken later this year. Copies of a consultative memorandum outlining the proposals were placed in the Vote Office for the information of Members on 10th February.
