§ Mr. Kershawasked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether, in view of the need to save resources, he will direct the Transport and Road Research Laboratory to cancel immediately expenditure on experimental devices known as Lucas Headway, Rita and AWARE.
§ Dr. GilbertOn RITA and AWARE, I refer the hon. Member to my reply to him of 16th December last, which made it clear that the earlier European project for a jointly financed demonstration involving these systems had been deferred, and that relevant research work would meanwhile be pursued on a relatively limited scale. This remains the position.
Work on the Lucas Headway system is now virtually complete. There are no present plans for further spending.—[Vol. 902, c. 622–3.]
