Mr. Hooley

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will list in the Official Report total consumer expenditure on: (a) alcohol, (b) tobacco and (c) gambling, in the United Kingdom in each of the years 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974 and 1975, indicating which figures, if any, are estimates.

All the figures are estimates. The bases for making them are described in "National Accounts Statistics: Sources and Methods" HMSO 1968.

The figures for the years 1971 to 1974 are given in Table 29 of "National Income and Expenditure 1964–1974" published by the Central Statistical Office. The figures for 1975 are preliminary estimates.
