asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will give an estimate as to the cost of extending the age allowance to widows between the ages of 40 and 65 years.

pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 2nd March 1976; Vol. 906, c. 548], gave the following information:

The information on which to base a reliable estimate is not available, but the cost would be about £30 million.
