HC Deb 04 March 1976 vol 906 cc683-4W
Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment why expenditure on roads and local transport in England is now intended to fall by 23 per cent. and expenditure on road construction and road maintenance in 1978–79 is to be less than 75 per cent. of that planned in Command Paper No. 5879

while expenditure on roads and local transport in Wales and Scotland is to be untouched and expenditure on road construction in those countries is to be increased by 6 per cent.

Dr. Gilbert

Reductions have been made in the planned expenditure on roads and local transport in all three countries. The resulting programme figures are discussed in Chapter 6 of Part 2 of the White Paper, Public Expenditure to 1979–80 (Cmnd. 6393).
