HC Deb 04 March 1976 vol 906 c675W
Mr. Steen

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will introduce legislation so that those convicted for violence in public houses are banned for fixed periods from all public houses.

Mr. Alexander W. Lyon

No. The occupier of any licensed premises which is not an inn has a common law right to decide whom he will admit or serve, and to eject any person at his discretion. A general prohibition from entering licensed premises would be impossible to enforce except where the offender was already known to the licensee, in which case he could be refused admittance under existing powers.
