§ Dr. GilbertThere are 9,964 miles of trunk road, which are estimated to occupy about 100,000 acres of land.
British Railways route mileage is 11,258; the total British Rail land holding amounts to 210,000 acres, but the area within this which is covered by the rail network cannot readily be calculated.
