HC Deb 04 March 1976 vol 906 cc707-8W
50. Mr. Donald Stewart

asked the Secretary of State for Trade if he will make it his policy not to subsidise losses incurred in operating the Concorde aircraft.

Mr. Clinton Davis

I do not accept that British Airways will necessarily incur operating losses on their Concorde services. As I have already made clear, however, the Government will stand by the undertaking, given by the previous Administration, to review the financial position periodically with the British Airways Board in the light of the outcome of the Board's operation and of the conditions prevailing in international civil aviation at the time and, if necessary, to take steps to ensure that the Board maintains a sound financial performance.

Mr. Cryer

asked the Secretary of State for Trade whether an application to fly Concorde over India has been made and the decision reached; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Clinton Davis

I have nothing to add to the replies that my right hon. Friend gave to similar Questions on 9th February 1976.—[Vol. 905, c. 12–14.]

Mr. Cryer

asked the Secretary of State for Trade whether an application to fly Concorde supersonically over France has been made and the decision reached.

Mr. Shore

I will reply to my hon. Friend as soon as possible.
