Mr. Stonehouse

asked the Attorney-General if charges were reinstituted for hearing at the Central Criminal Court after being dismissed in the magistrates' courts in the cases of Regina v. Robertson, Dairley, Stirling, McCoy, Buchanan, McDonald, Moohen, McGraw, Mullen, Ricketts, McLaughlin, Holmes, Cooney, Sheeran, Stipanovsky and Spencer heard in October 1975; and what were the final charges on which the defendants were acquitted.

The Attorney-General

No charges were reinstated after being dismissed by the magistrates.

The following defendants were acquitted of the charges indicated:

Frank McCoy, Thomas Patrick Cooney, Patricia Moohen, Harry Sterling, John Joseph Stipanovsky and James Spencer: conspiracy to cheat and defraud.

John Francis Carroll McLaughlin: endeavouring to obtain property on a forged instrument and handling stolen goods.

Leslie Holmes: attempted obtaining property by deception.

Thomas Richard Ricketts: handling stolen goods

These figures reflect the following classification changes which occurred during the period in question:

Various dates during 1974—The setting up of the Manpower Services Commission and its Agencies, resulting

life. Mr. Smith was charged with possessing firearms with intent to endanger life, and possessing firearms with intent to commit an indictable offence. The prosecution offered no evidence on either of these charges and verdicts of not guilty were formally recorded.

Knight, Mott, Murphy, Harrington and Curran-Douglas heard in November 1975; and what were the final charges on which defendants were acquitted.

The Attorney-General

No charges were reinstated after being dismissed by the magistrates. Knight was acquitted of unlawful possession of a controlled drug and of handling stolen goods; the prosecution offered no evidence on these counts.
