HC Deb 04 March 1976 vol 906 cc732-3W
Mr. George

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many appointees are in receipt of social security benefits, how many of these are related to the claimant, what is the total number of appointees as a percentage of the total number of people receiving benefits; and how much is expected to be paid to appointees 1975–76.

Mr. Meacher

I regret that the information is not available in relation to social security benefits as a whole. It is, however, known that a total of 91,520 retirement and widows' pensions were in payment to appointees in November 1975 and that this represented 1¼ per cent. of all such pensions. We have no information concerning the amounts involved.
