§ Mr. Moateasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will now make a statement on the policy of Her Majesty's Government towards the policy of Spain of eventually securing full membership of the EEC.
§ Mr. HattersleyThe Spanish Foreign Minister, Sr. Areilza, explained to my right hon. Friend yesterday his Government's plans for democratic reform. It will be our desire to help Spain achieve a democratic society and a new relationship with the rest of Europe. We are not solely responsible for the formulation of policy in the EEC towards Spain. But, in my view, the Community could entertain an application for membership only from a democratic Spain.
