Mr. Bidwell

asked the Minister for the Civil Service what was the total amount spent on newspaper and magazine advertising undertaken by the Central Office of Information on behalf of other Government Departments in the years 1974–75 and 1975–76; and which national newspapers were used together with a total for each.

The total amount spent on newspaper and magazine advertising by the Central Office of Information on behalf of other Government Departments was £7,611,000 in 1974–75 and an estimated £8,872,000 for 1975–76. The amounts spent in individual national newspapers in both years were as follows:
