HC Deb 02 March 1976 vol 906 c520W
35. Mr. Arnold

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he will provide a breakdown of capital expenditure on the subsidised theatre as between London and the regions for the present financial year.

Mr. Hugh Jenkins

So far as the continuing programme of "housing the arts" is concerned, information for 1975–76 is not yet complete; but the Arts Council has so far made capital grants of over £64,000 for London theatres and over £435,000 for theatres outside London. The South Bank Theatre Board, in addition, expects to spend nearly £3 million this year on the completion of the new National Theatre building on the South Bank.
