§ Mr. Peter Reesasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many appeals by immigrants from the decisions of immigration officers have been determined; and how many have been allowed, in each of the past five years by (a) adjudicators sitting alone, (b) the immigration appeals tribunal and (c) the Secretary of State for the Home Department or other appropriate Minister.

Such discretion has been and should be used sparingly.
