HL Deb 02 March 1976 vol 368 cc1001-2WA
Viscount GAGE

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, in their view, despite the statutory financial assistance granted to them under recent legislation, charitable housing associations will continue to require further assistance from charitable funds if they are to remain financially viable and capable of extending their activities.

Baroness BIRK

The financial assistance provided by the Housing Act 1974 for registered housing associations was intended to cover any deficit expected to be incurred in providing housing accommodation, and associations no longer have to rely upon other sources of income. But some housing associations carry out welfare functions, which are not covered by housing grants, and they welcome charitable donations to make this possible.
