HC Deb 02 March 1976 vol 906 c491W
Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what are the reasons for granting only £90.7 million in aid under the Industry Act 1972 in view of high unemployment in the North-West area.

Mr. Gregor Mackenzie

The amounts spent on regional financial assistance under the Industry Act depend on the level of industrial investment in the assisted areas.

Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what criteria are applied in granting £90.7 million under the Industry Act 1972 to the North-West; and if the same criteria are applied to grants for other regions.

Mr. Gregor Mackenzie

The same criteria are applied in the North-West as in other assisted areas. The criteria for selective financial assistance under Sections 7 and 8 of the Industry Act 1972, as amended, were published on 12th January, and a copy of the notice was placed in the Library of the House. Regional development grants are paid in accordance with the provisions of the Industry Act 1972.
