Notes:
(1) All figures in Table 1 are rounded to the nearest 10,000. All figures in Table 2 are rounded to the nearest ten per thousand.
(2) The regions taken are the standard regions for Family Expenditure Survey purposes and do not necessarily coincide exactly with DHSS Regions.
(3) The estimates are based on data from the 1974 Family Expenditure Survey and are subject to sampling error. Figures in square brackets are subject to very considerable sampling error. Small differences between figures are not necessarily statistically significant.
(4) The calculation is based on the family's normal income, in their normal employment situation. Where, for example, the head of the household had been off work because of sickness or unemployment for less than three months at the time of the survey, the family's normal income when he is at work is used in determining the income level.
(5) Figures in column 2 and subsequent columns include supplementary benefit recipients. The estimates for these numbers have been taken from the Departmentaty/Annual Statistical Enquiry (November 1974). To ensure consistency with the FES data (see note 3) those in receipt for less than three months at the time of the survey were excluded.
