HC Deb 02 March 1976 vol 906 cc516-7W
28. Mr. Michael McNair-Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what discussions he has had with local authorities about Government spending on education in the current year.

Mr. Mulley

I have had discussions in the Consultative Council on Local Government Finance and on other occasions when I have met representatives from local education authorities.

Mr. Noble

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what will be the proportion of public expenditure on education and libraries allocated to the North-West in 1977, 1978 and 1979; and how this compares with 1974 to 1976.

Mr. Mulley

Since the Government do not allocate approved current expenditure for these services to individual local authorities the question cannot be answered for local authorities individually or in regional groups. Capital building programmes for years after 1976–77 have not yet been decided. Capital expenditure on libraries is locally determined.
