§ 50. Sir Anthony Royleasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will detail the various methods of dealing with the problem of air pollution caused by Messrs. Gardner Merchants in Kew; and if the Alkali Inspectorate is satisfied that these methods will be successful.
§ Mr. Denis HowellThe Alkali Inspectorate suggested that either afterburning or catalytic combustion might deal satisfactorily with the odour emitted from this factory, but the company considered those measures to be too expensive. A planning application for a chimney with an outlet 37 ft. about ground level, which should disperse the smell away from the surrounding houses, is being considered by the local planning authority.
