§ Mr. Bidwellasked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will bring in legislation to extend the Acts and measures for which the Secretary of State for the Home Department is currently responsible, which are now applicable to Great Britain, to Northern Ireland.
§ Mr. Merlyn ReesThe Northern Ireland Act 1974 makes temporary provision for the government of Northern Ireland. I shall shortly be bringing before the House proposals for renewal of these provisions and making a statement discussing the arrangements for legislating for Northern Ireland, but it does not follow that legislation now applicable to Great Britain should be automatically extended to Northern Ireland.
