asked the Prime Minister when he expects the Royal Commission on the legal professions to hold its first meeting.

The Queen has been pleased to approve the appointment of the following as members of the Royal Commission on Legal Services:—Professor Ralf Dahrendorf, Ph.D., Dr.Phil., Director of the London School of Economics and Political Science. Leonard Edmondson, Esq., Member of the Executive Council of the Amalgamated Union of Engineering Workers and of the Trades Union Congress General Council. Peter Goldman, Esq., C.B.E., Director of the Consumers' Association and Patron of the International Organisation of Consumer Unions. J. T. W. Haines, Esq., Chief Press Secretary to Sir Harold Wilson from 1969–76. Tom Harper, Esq., Legal journalist. Was Editor of the "Law Society's Gazette" from 1950–65 and then of the "New Law Journal" until 1972. Mark Littman, Esq., Q.C., Deputy Chairman of the British Steel Corporation, Director of Rio-Tinto Zinc Corporation Ltd., and of the Commercial Union Insurance Co., Ltd. Bencher of the Middle Temple and a Member of the Senate of the Inns of Court and the Bar. Miss Susan Marsden-Smedley, Director of the Legal Action Group Education and Service Trust Ltd. William Marshall, Esq., Company Director in Northern Ireland. Peter Oppenheimer, Esq., Student and Tutor in Economics, Christ Church, Oxford University. Mrs. Sally Ramsden, Immediate Past President of the United Kingdom Federation of Business and Professional Women. Alwyn Roberts, Esq., Lecturer in the Department of Social Theory and Institutions, University College, Bangor, and a member of Gwynedd County Council and of Gwynedd Area Health Authority. David Seligman, Esq., Practising Solicitor, Partner in the firm of Sidney Isaacs, Seligman and Co., Cardiff. The Honourable Mr. Justice Templeman, Judge of the Chancery Division of the High Court of Justice. W. M. H. Williams, Esq., Practising solicitor. Partner in Messrs. Clifford Turner, London.

I announced on the 18th May that Her Majesty had approved the appointment of Sir Henry Benson, GBE, FCA, as Chairman of the Royal Commission.

I understand that the Chairman intends to hold a meeting later this week.
