§ Mr. Craigenasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what progress has been made in implementing those recommendations in the report of the Committee on Privacy, Command Paper No. 5012, in respect of technical surveillance devices and computers.
§ Mr. JohnThe Government published on 16th December 1975 a White Paper (Cmnd. 6353) and a supplementary report (Cmnd. 6354) on computers and privacy. A Data Protection Committee, under the Chairmanship of Sir Norman Lindop, is being appointed to prepare the way for the setting up of permanent machinery to oversee the use of computers which handle personal information. The Younger Committee's recommendations on technical surveillance devices are under consideration.
