§ Miss Margaret JacksonAuthorities do not make regular returns of the number of educational maintenance allowances awarded. The latest available figures are derived from a survey carried out in the autumn term 1974, which showed that 6,880 pupils in England and Wales were receiving allowances, at a total annual value of £860,000.
