§ Mr. Nicholas Wintertonasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if, in the light of the Government's White Paper on Public Expenditure and the publication of the Transport Policy 432W Review Consultative Document, he will make a statement on the long-standing proposals for a Macclesfield bypass.
§ Mr. MarksThe Government's programme of trunk road construction will come under review both in the light of the White Paper Cmnd. 6393 and in consequence of the blue consultation paper on transport policy published on 14th April. It is too soon to say whether or how this scheme may be affected. Meanwhile, the Department is carrying out a detailed reappraisal of the proposals for the Macclesfield inner relief road published in 1973 in the light of current information. We expect to announce revised proposals in due course, possibly in the spring of 1977.
