Mr. Churchill

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many staff are employed by area health authorities in the North-West Region; of these, how many are medically qualified and how many are employed in the other principal categories.

Dr. Owen

As at 30th November 1975 a total of 57,644—whole-time equivalent—of whom 2,308 are medical staff; 28,823 nursing and midwifery; 6,686 administrative and clerical; 4,486 professional and technical; and 15,341 ancillary and other staff.

Mr. Churchill

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many staff are engaged full-time or part-time in planning by the area health authorities in the North-West Region; and what are the resources available for capital schemes in the North-West in the financial year 1976–77.

Dr. Owen

£26.3 million is available to the North-Western Region for capital schemes. The information asked for in the first part of the Question is not available.
