HL Deb 24 June 1976 vol 372 c568WA
Lord BALERNO

asked Her Majesty's Government:

To outline the way in which the £1 million allocated to research and development in fish farming in England and Wales was spent.

Lord STRABOLGI

: In 1975/76 fish farming research and development carried out in England and Wales by the Fisheries Laboratories of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food cost some£500,000. Of this sum, about one-third was spent on shellfish cultivation research; a comparable amount on marine flat fish and about £150,000 on fish disease work which is mainly of interest to fish farmers. In addition, the Government commissioned work with the Natural Environment Research Council on the biology and nutrition of cultivated fish at a cost approaching £100,000.

House adjourned at two minutes before ten o'clock.
