§ 24. Mr. Teddy Taylorasked the Secretary of State for Employment what progress has been made by the Conciliation and Arbitration Service in seeking to resolve the dispute in the Scottish steel industry; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Harold WalkerMembers of the Association of Professional, Executive, Clerical and Computer Staff were suspended by the British Steel Corporation after taking industrial action to secure recognition when transferred to another office of the British Steel Corporation in Glasgow, where the Iron and Seel Trades Confederation is at present the recognised union.
The issue was considered by a TUC disputes committee on Friday and it recommended that normal working should resume while talks take place between the British Steel Corporation and the two unions. APEX has accepted this recommendation, but is seeking payment for its members for the period of sus- 368W pension. The Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service remains ready to provide any assistance it can.
