HC Deb 16 June 1976 vol 913 c167W
Sir J. Langford-Holt

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the gross sum of money in each of the last five years represented by the fines for parking offences in relation to which the offenders claimed diplomatic immunity.

Mr. John

The following table compiled from statistical returns from police forces in England and Wales gives the total numbers of fixed penalty notices cancelled on grounds of diplomatic immunity. The amount of fixed penalty specified in each notice was £2

Number of Notices Cancelled
1970 28,515
1971 29,533
1972 42,561
1973 62,729
1974 62,703

The information in this table has been compiled on a broader basis than that used for replies to previous similar Questions, in which the figures given have been aggregates of provisional figures readily available from Metropolitan Police computer data. In this table the basis of the figures has been expanded so as to give the final annual figures covering all police forces in England and Wales.

Corresponding figures for 1975 are not yet available.
