§ Mr. Harold WalkerAs my right hon. Friend the then Secretary of State for Employment informed my hon. Friend the Member for Kingston upon Hull, Central (Mr. McNamara) on 30th March 189W —[Vol. 908, c. 442–3]—the Government intend to make the necessary additional arrangements to provide a bank holiday in lieu whenever a bank holiday or public holiday falls at the weekend, with effect from Christmas-New Year 1976–77. An announcement will be made as soon as possible about which days will be designated in lieu of Christmas Day 1976 and New Year's Day 1977.
