HC Deb 14 June 1976 vol 913 cc30-1W
Mr. McNamara

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science (1) what the total number of trained teachers qualifying in the Hull College of Education and Institute of Education was in 1975; how many were offered teaching appointments on qualification; and how many are still seeking their first teaching post;

(2) what is his estimate of the number of teachers qualifying in the Hull College of Education and Institute of Education in 1976; how many have already been provisionally offered teaching posts; and how many he expects not to receive their first teaching posts before the academic year 1977–78.

Miss Margaret Jackson

596 students from the three teacher training institutions in Hull were recommended for qualified teacher status at the end of last academic year. The corresponding number for this year would be about 580 if previous patterns of staying on for a fourth year and of examination success continue. Employment details are not collected, and I cannot make any useful estimate of the kind requested.
