§ Mr. McCrindleasked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection what action she can now take to protect the consumer interest against garages refusing to give discounts on incomplete gallons of petrol.
§ Mr. John FraserFailure by a garage to extend a discount to incomplete gallons of petrol is not in itself an offence. However, if a garage which advertises a price discount does not make it clear to the customer that the discount will not be given on incomplete gallons of petrol, there may be an offence under the Trade Descriptions Act 1968. The Act is enforced by local weights and measures authorities, to whom complaints should be addressed.
