asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many driving examinations have been taken at the Ministry of Transport Driving Examination Centre in Nelson since its inception as the sole centre in north-east Lancashire; what percentage of the examinees were successful; and what is the national average of successful examinees over the last 12 months.

Between 30th June 1975 and 31st May 1976, 6,615 driving tests were conducted from the centre in Cobden Street, Nelson. 47 per cent. of them were passed. The national average pass rate for the year ended 31st May 1976 was 45 per cent.
