HC Deb 14 June 1976 vol 913 cc40-1W
Mr. Teddy Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on the discovery of chemical explosive substances in a parked car outside certain foreign consulates in Edinburgh on 31st May; what steps are being taken to arrange for further police protection to such consulates; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Harry Ewing

Two persons have been charged with an offence under Section 4(1) of the Explosive Substances Act 1883 in connection with the discovery of an explosive substance in a car parked in the vicinity of the French Consulate in Edinburgh on 31st May. As the matter is now sub judice there is nothing further I can add. I am advised by the police that they regard the present arrangements for the protection of consulates in Edinburgh as adequate.
