§ Mr. Speedasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will state the current public sector borrowing and credit arrangements that have been made since 5th March 1974 to the latest available date in terms of pounds sterling per head of the United Kingdom population.
§ Mr. Robert Sheldon, pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 10th June 1976: Vol. 912, c. 752], gave the following information:
I assume that the hon. Member is interested in the foreign currency borrow- 815W ing and credit facilities of the Government and United Kingdom public sector. At the end of May, borrowing of this type undertaken since 1st March 1974 was equivalent to £5790 million converted at the exchange rates operatiing on 8th June. The only relevant lines of credit are the undrawn $800 million of the line of credit from Iran, and the $5.3 billion standby credit announced on 7th June. These borrowings and credit facilities are together equivalent to approximately £165 per head of the United Kingdom population.
