§ Mr. Wardasked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he is aware that two prescription charges are levied by dispensing chemists for Migraleve tablets which are supplied in packs containing combinations of two tablets together constituting one treatment; and if he will authorise for such prescriptions the levying of only one charge.
§ Dr. OwenYes. We have no present proposals to alter the basis of the NHS charges for Drugs and Appliances Regulations which provide that a charge should be made in respect of each quantity of a drug supplied. We are, however, committed to phasing out prescription charges when resources permit, and in the meantime the prepayment certificate is available for patients who need frequent prescriptions and are not exempt on medical, age or low income grounds.
