§ Mr. Peter Reesasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what representations he has made to the EEC Commission about subsidies granted on reimportation of British meat into the United Kingdom.
§ Mr. BishopThe EEC Commission in consultation with member States keeps the level of both monetary and accession compensatory amounts for beef under constant observation and changes are made in the arrangements if there is evidence that the subsidies payable are causing distortion of trade. Trade in beef between the United Kingdom and the 451W Continent can involve the export of beef from this country for storage or processing in another member State and subsequent reimportation for sale on our market. There is no evidence that any abnormal trade is taking place because of the incidence of compensatory amounts and my right hon. Friend has no plans to make representations to the EEC Commission about the present arrangements.
