(2) how many staff are employed by the Urban Deprivation Unit; and what are its objects.
§ Mr. JohnThe Urban Deprivation Unit, in which 25 staff are employed, is the part of our Department which assists us in carrying out our responsibility for the development of Government policy directed to combating urban deprivation. To this end, it administers the Urban Programme, grants under Section 11 of the Local Government Act 1966 and the community development projects and other studies aimed at improving our understanding of urban deprivation. It is responsible also for the development of comprehensive community programmes.
