§ The Prime MinisterMy right hon. Friend has overall responsibility for the work of the Department of Education and Science. This includes the formulation of general policy on education, science and the arts as it affects schools —including special schools—teachers, the universities, the polytechnics, other further and adult education, the youth service, student awards and other matters affecting students, the research councils, national museums, galleries and libraries, and grants to the arts.
