§ Mr. DeakinsThe latest estimate of the population of New Commonwealth and Pakistani ethnic origin living in England is 1,453,000 as on census day, 25th April 1971. The Registrar General has prepared updated estimates of this population only for Great Britain, the latest estimate being 1,744,000 at mid-316W 1974, compared with 1,486,000 on 25th April 1971. These figures were published in the article "Country of birth and colour, 1971–74" in Population Trends No. 2. The 1975 mid-year estimate for Great Britain will be published shortly. All estimates of the population of New Commonwealth and Pakistani ethnic origin are based on the 1971 Census of Population, updated from data on registration of births and deaths and data on migration collected in the International Passenger Survey.
