HC Deb 26 July 1976 vol 916 c92W
Mr. Shersby

asked the Secretary of State for Industry if he will take action to protect the competitive position of British manufacturing industry against a further increase of 25 per cent. in the price of tinplate during 1976 in view of the fact that the increase of 68 per cent. in its price between 1973 and 1975 is still affecting the industry.

Mr. Kaufman

In conformity with the requirements of the Treaty of Paris, tinplate prices are not subject to Government control. United Kingdom prices are generally in line with prices elsewhere in the EEC, so British manufacturing industry should not be at a competitive disadvantage.
